    Frakkin' Humidity!

My houses humidity is 25. I live in what is essentially a desert. The snake tub humidity was 75, so I turned off my humidifier in the room that I use when I sleep. No good. Drilled four more holes in the tubs, and it only went down to 71.

What on earth is going on?! Any suggestions? I'm afraid if I drill too many holes that it will mess up the temps, which took me days to get right. Is there a better place to drill the holes to get more effect on the humidity? They are both done shedding, and I really need to get this down.

*crap, wrong forum. Can a mod move this? Thanks!*

Well the best place would be in the lid to help let some of the trapped humidity out. What sort of water dishes do you use (tall, wide mouthed, etc) and where is the water dish located in the tub? What type of substrate did you end up going with? Is the humidity just a bit high or do you actually have condensation forming?

The water dish is a blue dog cat dish, the kind that JLC had in a set of her picture. They move the water dish, but generally it is on the cool side. They also use it as a hide. We use newspaper as substrate. There isn't any condensation since I did the second round of holes and made the first ones bigger.

I'll go ahead and drill the holes in the lid and see how that works today, I just really hope that it doesn't mess with the temps.

Okay just to clarify here...you refer to "they" moving the water dish around and using it as a hide. Do you have them in the same enclosure or housed seperately?

I know Frankykeno is gonna give you the best advice available cause she is the bomb, but i just wanted to say maybe try a smaller water dish and move it to the cooler side of the tub.

Thanks Judd, but I'm just a newb still in the greater scheme of the level of experience available at BPNet. I might answer what I know of from my own personal hands on experiences with our small collection, but there's things about genetics, breeding, breeder tricks of the trade, etc. that totally confuse me still. I'm learning along with everyone else here.

    Re: Frakkin' Humidity!

They are each in their own enclosure, but they both prefer hiding under the water dish to the actual hides. I'm going to bike over to the store today, buy another dish, take the kids and walk around the lake to collect some nice rocks, then stick the dish with the rocks on the warm side and the water dish on the cool side. That way they don't move it around. That way they have their fancy waterbowl hides that they like, but I a not putting more moisture in there, and they won't have to move the bowl to the warm side when they want to hide there.

I put 4 holes in the lid before church and checked when I came back, and it went down some more. We're getting there!
