    Re: Quick Question

You don't really need to use bulbs unless you need the extra warmth in your enclosure, but in that case, the best bulbs to use would be low watt red night or blue night bulbs. For just warmth, better still would be a CHE - ceramic heat emitter.

I have a 20gal tank for my girl, and I use a 40watt blue night bulb on a night setting timer for extra cooler weather warmth and so I can see her as she cruises. These bulbs are fairly easy to find and not really expensive.

I use a 40 watt black night bulb. Rock'y infatuated(spelling?) with it, and as mentioned it allows me to see him. It actually make him look pretty cool b/c of the way black lights effect the white coloring on his body.

    Re: Quick Question

We like to open the windows on cool nights, so we need extra help at for Mr. Snake and use a 100 watt ceramic bulb (CHE) over the 20 gal tank. The only thing is that it makes the humidity low, so we need to cover most of the top to keep moisture in and spray at least three times a day or so. We finally got the temps right (90/80 gradient from side to side) and are still working on humidity.

    Re: Quick Question

Yep, that's the problem with those CHE's: they suck out the humidity. That's why I stopped using mine and just rely on the UTH for good temps. Of course now that Colorado winter is approaching, I'll probably have to put it back soon, but I'm planning on adding insulation to the outsides of both my tanks and getting a space heater for the bedroom.

As for humidity, I'm thinking of adding a moss box. Sort of like a humid hide, but with no snake entrance. I'll let you all know if it works.

    Re: Quick Question

I use an infrared, it works good but mine is on a thermostat so the constant on/off is starting to drive me NUTS! I'd go for the CHE instead and keep an eye on the humidity.
