Different kinds of heat light bulbs

So, what's the difference in using an infra-red heat light, a regular heat light, and one of those blue moonlight heat lights? I've been using the infra-red ones, because the tank is right next to my bed and I can't sleep with the bright regular heat light on. :-) It keeps the temperatures up around 90-92 all the time. So what's the difference? Any pros or cons?

Re: Different kinds of heat light bulbs

Other than color preference, I'm not sure there's any difference between the red lights and the blue ones. As I understand it, the snakes are not affected by either. And both are prefereable to the regular white light...because the snakes ARE affected by those...and like you....they prefer their night times to be dark.

Sounds to me like you've got things dialed in pretty well...no need to worry about changing bulbs. The general, the ambient daylight that is in the room each day is plenty of "daytime" for the snake, so they don't need a separate white spot light shining into their tank to know it's day outside.
