    *refresh* *refresh* *refresh*

I've been hitting the refresh button since 6pm yesterday, and finally my snakes are within an hour of my house! I'm so excited! I was hoping to say hi and handle them a bit before they go into their homes, but they are in shed so I can't. Poo. At least I can watch them!

    They're almost here!!!

Oh lordy that's exciting! Make sure to snap a couple of quick pics though, shed or not. A quick look over isn't going to harm them and you do need to always confirm a snake that is shipped to you is healthy anyways (darned fine excuse for a quick handling and a picture isn't it LOL).

Ugh. The shipping date changed to tomorrow, so I immediately called them. They've got a message out to the distribution center that it is imperative that they make arrangement to deliver it today and to call me with the alternate arrangements.

If we actually used my car I would just drive out there to get them. Grrr....I'm glad I was watching the tracking!

What??? The distribution center isn't putting them on the truck for delivery today even though it's a priority overnight type of shipping? Those are guaranteed next day by a certain time usually! Stay on top of them and perhaps have the breeder call and put some pressure on them too. If all else fails, I'd suggest you get them yourself from the local center but I'd sure as heck be asking for a refund since they are failing to ship as promised.

Oy. They are on the truck, it just wasn't registered since the plane came in late or something. They said,"Oh, that always shows the wrong date." Then why not fix it, geniuses? My husband thinks it sounds like they are covering their arse.

Anyhow, they are on the truck, and they will be delivered first, so they will probably be here in the next hour or two. I was about 10 minutes away from hopping in the car and driving the hour and a half to get them myself. Crisis averted!

Not here yet. This is worse than waiting for yarn shipments!

I do have a question, though. I have the cages set up, but it seems cramped. I have 16 QT sterilite tubs, with two of the large yogurt containers in them, and there doesn't seem to be a lot of space for the water bowl. Should I use smaller container? get bigger enclosures? (Maybe I am imagining the snakes too large. I've never seen babies before, so it just seems like a tight fit to get everything in there.)

    Re: *refresh* *refresh* *refresh*

I guess it all depends on the actual size of the snakes. They really don't mind "cramped" quarters, though. And are just as happy crawling over the top of the hides as they are having flat floorspace...on the occasions that they actually come out and crawl around.

When they go into their new homes...they will likely explore for a bit...and don't be surprised if they don't use the hides right away. Sometimes they will cram themselves into a corner until they're quite convinced that those perfect little caves don't belong to some other critter. And since they live life at such a drastically slower pace than we do...this process of settling in can take several days.

If they like to crawl over the hides them maybe I should cut the yogurt containers down. They are the taller ones. Hmmm... I suppose all this stuff will get figured out gradually.

I'm going nuts here! Everytime a truck passes by I am out of my chair and the kids are running to the door. :lol

    LOL....I remember doing that.

They do prefer flat (low ceiling) hides. Security comes from feeling "hugged" on all sides and from above. Personally, I get claustrophobic just thinking about it...but they love it.

Here's a thread I did awhile back...illustrating just how tight they like their hides. The one that stars in this photoshoot isn't flat like a saucer, but it does show very well how tight they like it...and you can see another hide that is nice and flat...she loves those, too.
