Cage: 2 big or 2 small?

I am going to attempt building a double wide ball python cage. There will be a divider between my girl and my little guy. but here is the problem... is five feet in legth, 2 feet in width and height to much or to little? which means both snakes will get 2.5'x2x2. is that big enough for two fully grown pythons? or should i go with 4x2x2?

Re: Cage: 2 big or 2 small?

    Hi,

What sizes are they just now again?

I always think stacking works better than side by side most of the time as it slightly simplifies the heating arrangement - but that is almost certainly just because that's how I have always arranged mine and nothing more.

Re: Cage: 2 big or 2 small?

if i was going to stack how would heating be easier? I would think that horizontal would work better. kiki is about 18 inches and still waitin on gettin my boy. thats just their adult arrangement. right now ki is in a 2.5x1x2 any smaller and she goes stir crazy.. I tried everything to get her to eat when i first got her... then i randomly put her in my old fish tank to see how she would fare and she started eating again and has been a little piggy since... i tried to put her in a 10 gal and she wouldnt eat... what can i say.. girl wants some major elbow room >_< oi

I hope one of you says that a 2x2x2 is big enough.

Re: Cage: 2 big or 2 small?

    Hi,

As I said it's probably only habit on my part - I like having the hot end on the right hand side for some reason etc.

The stacking thing is mainly a floor space issue in my house as well - I don't have a lot of clear floor space but I do have 10 foot high ceilings.

I would say for full sized adults 4' x 2' x 18" -> 2' high would be fine unless they get really big.

I actually have a 5' x 2' x 2.5 (top 0.5' panelled off containing lights, thermostats and electrics) foot wooden vivarium sitting not 10 foot from me - and the thing looks huuuuuuuuuge in the room.

On a regular basis I would say she uses about 3 square feet of it - 5 tops as she shuttles from side to side.

How were you thinking of heating them? I'm using a ceramic heater on mine but it isn't exactly cheap to run.

well my naturalist professor has an undertank heater he will give me. the warm side will be the side closest to the divider on each side so the over all middle of the cage itself. the two side walls will be the cooler sides

Re: Cage: 2 big or 2 small?

For an adult, I've been told that 4x2x2 or 5x2x2 is best...but my adults are in either tubs, or the tanks...I have a 40g breeder and a 30 long so I can't really help you.

This is interesting because the most commonly used racks for adult BPs seem to hold 3'x2'x6" (approx) tubs (Iris CB 70, for example). Is 4x2 or 5x2 necessary??
