Reptitherm heating question
I ordered a UTH on amazon, a reptitherm medium. (I'm heating two small boxes, and half of each will be on it.) Nowhere does it say that it's only for glass use. I'm reading through the manual, and it says not for use on plastic, wood, etc.
My question is, with my thermostat, I should be able to use this on plastic, right? It's not going to get hot enough to melt if I am already controlling the temp.
Also, it's sticky. Can I put something on it for it to stick to and then put my containers on it? I'd rather not have it all sticking together, but if I have to I will.
I'm going to be pissed if I have to get new stuff.

Re: Reptitherm heating question
so you're using this to heat multiple tubs? i would have just gone with a nice strip of 4" flexwatt. then you could just lay it down and put the tubs right on top. no sticky stuff to mess with.
but since you got it mine as well use it. i have like 3 of them just laying around here cause i have no use for them anymore. you can leave the paper over the sticky part and just aluminum tape it to what ever you are attaching it to. it's not gonna melt the plastic, it doesn't get that hot.
well good luck with it.

Re: Reptitherm heating question
Thanks for the feedback. I figured it would be fine, but I called my husband about it. BIG mistake. He's an electronic engineer and works with similar things(I should pay more attention.), and he's talking about failure in certain current and has the pad plugged in upstairs doing something. Oy. lol.
Good to know I can leave the pad on and tape it! That will work out much better. We are already planning on building wood cages with the plexiglass on the front, but that will be a little bit out.
I guess they are just covering their butt with all the warnings in the pamphlet.

I think you should be fine. they are probably just covering there buts with some legal small print. They have no way of knowing how you are regulating temps and if there is any air circulation underneath etc.... I use stick on UTH on my plastic Vision cages(for quarrantines) and they work fine with Ranco t-stats. The imporatant thing is that you use a good t-stat and not some $25 pet store crap. That where the problems come from.
