Tubs and UTH

Hey I am curious. I am thinkign fo gettign a tub for my baby. But I am wondering fi UTH on the bottom fo the tub need to be set differently then a glass tank due to the heat they put out(especially on hot side) and the plastic of the tub possibly being a melt/fire risk. If anyone can hook em up with some knwoledge and maybe even a picture or diagram of how the UTH are normalyl set in a tub setup I would very much so appreciate it.And to any who know me from ym numerous worry posts my baby is doing fine and just took her second feeding without missing a beat

Right now I am not using a tub for my BP, but if I understand it correctly, you would set up a UTH the same way as you would if you were using it on a tank. You would still need to run a thermostat with the UTH to be able to monitor it and you would still need to use a digi thermometer to be able to measure the temps in the tub. If you use the thermostat and digi thermometer, the temp wouldn't be hot enough coming from the UTH to be able to melt the plastic or start a fire. You just have to make sure that you get a quality thermostat, as the cheaper ones can fail. I am not sure though what size UTH you would want for your tub, I guess it would depend on the size tub that you are going to use. But I think I remember someone posting one time that the UTH should cover less than 1/2 the tub bottom. Hope this helps, and please someone correct me if any of this is wrong. Like I said, I haven't moved to tubs yet. Oh, and you would need to use the spacers that come with the UTH and attach them to the bottom of the tub. You want to have some airflow underneath the tub with the UTH (but this is also the same if you had one on a tank).

UTH should be plug into a thermostat just like you would with a glass tank. This allow you to maintain proper temps and avoid overheating.

I'm making the transition to a tub for my girl.

I've heard the temperatures needed to melt a tub are way higher than any BP could tolerate - therefore you'll be just fine if you've got a good thermostat. The UTH should take up about 1/3 of the floor space and if you're using heat tape you attach the thermostat probe directly to it on the underside of the tub.

I have a question to throw in: Does a thin layer of newspaper pages work as substrate with a UTH (actually, I'm getting Flexwatt)?

I use newspaper with mine. Works just fine.
