this is going to be my rant for today. as you may have heard, it's been raining almost non stop here. there's been bad storms, tornado's, the whole 9 yards. so our power went out at 3.30 during our tornado warning/take cover in the basement. i left for band at 5.30 and got out at 9. we had to sit in the basement of the school because the storms were so bad.
so when i left, it was pouring rain. as i'm walking to my car, i noticed that the lights were on. (it doesn't tell you if you left them on). oh no. no way did i leave them on. this is not happening right now...well, it did. the battery was completely and totally dead. so i ran back inside and asked if anyone knew how to jump a car because i had cables. some kid's dad could, so we walked out to the car. he got it all hooked up and we jumped it. it was ok. nothing bad except for the fact that everyone was completely soaked.
so i get home and the power is still not on. that's fine. temps were going down a bit, but not too bad. me and my mom put an ice/hot pack in really hot water and put it in a plastic bag and stuck it in the cage. that did the trick and we just had to keep on heating it up. no worries there ethier.
i go to bed after finishing my homework by flashlight. and i get a call about 10.30 from a friend who gives me a ride to school, saying that their basement was flooded and that they weren't going to school. so that's ok too. i go downstairs in the basement (where my room is) to go to bed.
so i wake up at 2 in the morning to my dad saying- christina! the basement is flooding- get up and get stuff off the floor! i shoot out of bed and find wet carpet, but there were still dry patches. me and my mom are hauling my stuff upstairs while my brothers haul up their toys. meanwhile my dad is bailing out the sump pump (that's what backed up) with buckets. the power is still out by the way.
so at the beginning of the flooding, we had big dry patches. not a big deal right? by the time our neighbor's power came back on (we're on different lines) and we got ahold of their generator, we were standing in 3 inches or so of water. which means- the carpet is totally wet and ruined. the little drywall we had for my room was soaking up the water. we put my furniture up on boards and moved all of my things up in various places around the house. the garage is full of toys and things. at this exact moment, we're cutting and ripping the carpet up so we don't have to pay someone else to do it for us. the thing is, the floor underneath is concrete. so that means the carpet is glued to the floor. someone cuts a line and i get it off the floor with a shovel. i stayed home from school to help my mom, because my dad had to go to work. it's just a big mess.
we're gonna have to replace it all. the drywall, the carpet. my room is pretty much ruined, so i'm living in the home office for a few months. it's going to be very interesting. i really really hate storms now. thanks for listening to my rant. it's been a really fun day. the good thing is that it gave us a chance to clean out all of the useless junk and remodel the basement. thanks for listening to me complain. it's been a little frustrating.
