    New BP!

Well I made a post awhile back regarding some ball python information and mentioned I was waiting on getting a snake. I work at a local pet shop, family owned - that just takes great care of animals. So I decided to be patient and get my ball python from their breeder ( captive bred ). Well I showed up for work this afternoon and my manager surprised me mentioning we got abunch of lizards in, and of course I asked about ball pythons! Out of the three we got, this fella had the best color, and was nice and shiney. Mite free, and looks great. I got all of them out and was holding them, this guy seemed the most active. After helping customers with him around my arm for a good hour or so I decided to feed them all. The minute I dropped him in the feeding tub he struck and got the mouse, quicker then the other two. So I think I got a healthy pick!

I purchased a setup - cave hide log, under tank heater, a rough rock for shedding, and a branch. Not really much but I used some aspen bedding, plus the bed a beast mulch stuff. Also tossed some terraium moss stuff to kinda hold moisture and add to the decor and theme. I had unlimited resources working at a pet shop so I just kinda went with what looked tropical themed! I need to pick up some sort of thermometer as I just totally forgot when heading home with him and supplies after my shift.

Let me know what you think!

    His/her name is Little Carmine!

    Re: New BP!

Hi, and welcome to the forum.... congrats on your new friend as well.

i figured since you have been around here you probably have already read this over, but i'll proved it for you anyway. this is a caresheet, with everything you need to know: http://www.ball-pythons.net/modules....warticle&id=59

also here is a little guide on how to set up a glass tank: http://www.ball-pythons.net/modules....warticle&id=59

looking at the picture i don't see any way to monitor the temperature and humidity. i would recommend an acurite indoor/outdoor thermometer and hydrometer. they can be picked up at walmart or lowes for $12.

also i would recommend 2 identical hides. that half long one isn't a very good hide for a bp, as they like nice tight areas. you need two, one for cool side, and one for warm side. this way they don't sacrifice thermoregulating over security. you can find really cheap hides all over the place. plastic bowels w/ an door cut in them, or even plastic flower pot bottoms with a door. dollar stores are a great place to find nice bp hides.

well hope this helps a bit. any other questions don't be afraid to ask...

    Re: New BP!

Hey thanks for the replies! The log is kinda odd, it has like a plastic molding problem inside where its really cramped towards the end. I figured since it was smaller on that side it would be closed and small enough for him to hide in. The branch is blocking it in the picture. I do want to get more hides, I am thinking of looking at some more tomorrow at work.

Thanks for the thermometer recommendation I will hit walmart up tomorrow!

I hope I posted in the right section, I got ahead of myself and saw I posted in the Care section instead of General.. Oh well I still had questions if I had the correct setup!
