    BP Climbing???

Do BP like to Climb? I know they can, but if i build cages for my BPs, would they each like a cage were it is short and long... or Tall and Thin with stuff to climb up on?

Just a simple question, because i always see the short long tanks, but my 2 BPs are very active, and are always trying to climb up on the corners of the tanks....

    So what do you think???

    Re: BP Climbing???

    Well, here's my thoughts:

Younger BPs tend to be more inclined to climb than older BPs. As they get heavier bodied, they seem more inclined to stay close to the ground. Usually. However, they are not arboreal snakes and they don't need any climbing toys in order to thrive.

Having a tank or enclosure with enough head room to allow climbing branches means more difficulty in achieving optimum temps and humidity. It can be done, though.

If you feel strongly enough about wanting to give your BPs something to climb, and you are confident you can maintain a proper environment while providing it...then go for it.

They will grow and thrive very well in a simple, low-profile enclosure, though...so long as all their basic needs are met.

    Re: BP Climbing???

Well this may just be my opinion but....

if they are getting heavier and they are not being as active from not climbing because they are in a short box then don't you think they are getting, sorry for lack of words "lazy," because i know that attitudes are based how they are raised...

"NOTHING" a like but for EXAMPLE.... CATS!!!! I know not all cats get fat and lazy, and i know snakes and cats are nothing alike, but if you have a very active cat, they stay fit and slender, as for if they don't stay active they get fat and lazy!

I'm just asking questions, feel free and more thank welcome to state what you feel, but i'd like to know!

And yes i do understand the lighting, temps, and humity is a MUST HAVE CORRECT with pretty much ALL snakes.

And in no way am i being judgemental, or being mean to any statements, just want to know.

    Re: BP Climbing???

Well...grow up a whole bunch of BPs in enclosures large enough to support secure climbing "toys" for their whole lives...and then let us know the results!

    Re: BP Climbing???

I think most larger BP's tend to stay low. But I have seen 2 adults that was very active. But they did not climb on any kinds of limbs or anything. When I started raising snakes I asked this very same question. I was told that it is harder for a larger snake to keep there balance on a limb vs a smaller, lighter and shorter bp.
Imagine a large snake trying to climb a branch stretched out. He will most likely try to climb it with his body all bunched up. Which would help with balance. At the same time makeing it feel unsafe.
My larger snakes will only climb onto the couch. And then they go down from there. and its no fun getting them out.

    Re: BP Climbing???

My bps take advantage of their branches. Its not a necessity for their care but they will climb them. I will often see mine on the branch under the heat source. Just make sure they are secure and they can't be "squished" by the branch. Its pretty cool to see your bp stretched out on the limb.
