Re-sexing hatchlings
How often(or how many times) does everyone re-check the sex of thier hatchlings?
I bring this up because I went back and re-popped (and then also probed) our first clutch (50% het pieds). What I originally thought was a clutch of 3.4, is actually 5.2.
The two females I had decided to hold back are both males, and the two I had decided to sell are females. I checked the single female from clutch #2 and she popped and probed as a female, and our het albino clutch verified at 1.2. So I just must have been really nervous with that first clutch not getting the males to pop all the way.
Anyone else ever have surprises when re-checking?

Re: Re-sexing hatchlings
I always double check myself at least a few times. I held back ALL females from my very first clutch.. I still have them as a matter of fact, and all three of them produce really nice big sperm plugs. I've learned a few things since then. I usually pop them right after they hatch and I've washed them off. Then I double check after they've had their first shed . I'll usually check a few more times before feedings or after a shed, especially on females that I'm suspicious of. You don't want to do it too many times, or you increase the chances of causing damage, but once is never enough.

Re: Re-sexing hatchlings
I had my first snake probed as a female when she was younger. I took her to the vet along with everyone else to confirm sexes and it turns out she is really a he. So I feel your pain there. He'll be a pet as he really doesn't fit into any of my breeding plans.

Re: Re-sexing hatchlings
Pretty much my plans are to pop everyone when they hatch, and re-check the females again a few days later and maybe a few days after that. it's generally pretty obvious if they pop male, but the ones that don't pop so easy could go either way.
