Does anybody use hand sanitizer in between the handling of different animals?

Just wondering, cause I saw a little bottle of special sanitizer at the pet store specifically for that. I'm pretty sure that is a rip off, you should just be able to use regular hand sanitizer. But ya does anyone do that? Seems like a good idea.

I love the hand sanitizer! I just put a dispenser in the snake room and I have one coming for the rat room as well.

I've used that stuff after EVERY animal handling for years. The 'regular' stuff works just fine, no need for fancy special brands.

BTW, is that special stuff you're talking about Wipe Out 3?

    Yep, that's the stuff.

I always told customers that it was purely a matter of choice: they could get that or the regular sanitizers like Purell. There's really no difference between them and they all work the same. Just be sure to use SOMETHING.

ohter then the fact if you see it at a pet store be it a hide pet toy bedding hand sanitizer or whatever you can find it at wal mart kroger or other places for half the price. Yes hand sanitizer is great we use it all the time when done handling our collection from moving from the quarntine room to the other room it's just a good idea to kill any type of germ before you handle another animal or just to be safe when your all done.

Nope, I don't use it when handling my own animals, I do use it when at a show if I'm handling different peoples animals. I use the knockoff brand that you can buy at target, much cheaper then any name brand and it's the same stuff.

Re: Does anybody use hand sanitizer in between the handling of different animals?

I just use normal hand sanitizer, and we have a few bottles of it around the pet store where I work, one right next to the cash register. It's easier than having to run to the bathroom every few minutes to wash my hands, and this way we can give customers lessons on good reptile care by leading by example.

Also when I do kids presentations with my animals, I make them use hand sanitizer before and after touching every animal. Gives the teacher and parents peace of mind, and I know that my reptiles will be just fine as well.

With 5 snakes in quarantine we go through the stuff LOL. We also insist the children wash their hands after handling the any of the snakes (regular collection as they aren't allowed access to snakes in quarantine) and we took gel hand sanitizer to the school when we did a show there. It also comes along to snake shows in case the vendors don't offer it.
