Good misting systems
We want to get Milton a mister for his home. He is shedding now, and we want to up the humidity a bit.
The problem we've had is that we can't keep the temps up without a lamp (there's also a UTH, but it only keeps it around 80), and that dries out the air. His eyes just cleared up yesterday, and now his skin is kind of wrinkly and light colored. Last night I saw him rubbing on his log for the first time, so that was cool!
Can anyone recommend a good misting system? With that lamp I can spray down the cage, but it dries out in a half hour!
Thanks

a 49 cent spray bottle from wal-mart
edit...n/m you already do that haha
what kind of enclosure is it? If it's a tank with a mesh top, I used to put a damp towel on top of the cage and that worked wonders for me...

Re: Good misting systems
Well, I've got the foil rig (about 3/4 of the mesh) that I got from one of the posts on here. That helped a lot (I was around 30% humidity at first!!).
So you just put a damp towel over the top? Should I take off the foil for the towel or just cover the rest of the mesh with it?
I hope he'll get on with it and finish his shed today or tomorrow!

Re: Good misting systems
I wouldn't cover the top completely. that cuts off fresh air.
I've never tried to foil method...so why don't you try both methods? First hand experience is the best experience you can get.
Take the foil off, wet a towel and put it in place of the foil, and wait for about an hour and then let us know how your humidity does.

I've tried both and found the damp towel works well. I've since moved the snakes to the basement where its naturally humid, so there isn't a need for them any longer.

Re: Good misting systems
Well, I've tried the towel technique for the past couple of days, and it works GREAT! I can even run the lamp and keep the humidity in the 70s!
He's just finished his first successful shed (not in one piece, but there's always next time!). It was neat seeing all the stages, from pink to blue and so forth!
I could always keep the humidity in the 50s and low 60s before without the lamp, but now it's not a problem at all, and next time I'll be able to bump it better just after he gets out of blue.
Thanks again to everyone on the site! You're always a great help!

Now it's time to get a good thermostat with a probe and all that!

Re: Good misting systems
Ive been using the foil trick with a 10 gallon tank and a heat lamp with 60watt bulb i belive? not exactly sure what wattage probably less but temp and humidty are great for me execpt directly under the heat lamp where its constanly around about 40% but the cool side stays at a good 60% temps are perfect with hot about 94 and cool around 84

This foil trick what do you do put it under the lid of you enclosure? I have a 10 Gallon tank with the lid that you can buy for it.
