Why does my aspen look like this?

Hey guys, I'm looking around through the forums, and I come by pictures with aspen bedding and it looks nothing like mine. They seem to have like small "bean-curd"-like shapes, but mine are all shavey, like the hamster-rodent stuff. Is this what it's supposed to look like?

(Best picture i had available without taking another just for the bedding)

I'm just worried I'm not giving him anything dangerous.

the small stuff is called sani-chips. Its small cubes of aspen. Pretty good stuff from what I hear. No worries on your though I use that Kaytee brand that you get at pets mart and have for some time

Re: Why does my aspen look like this?

I believe there are a couple of different kinds of aspen. The kind you have pictured is the bigger cut aspen, while the kind you typically see around the board is a lot more shredded. I know my aspen doesn't look like yours...but aspen is aspen.

As for the Sani chips..i've heard numerous complaints about how big of a mess it makes, and I talked with Greg Graziani and he said it caused some infections on some of his males because it got stuck in with the hemipenes during breeding. Use caution.
