    more incubator woes? Yes.

Oh my freakin' land. I got home from work today (530pm) and go to look in at the incubator/eggs as usual. Well, my Helix reads 89, as it has merrily along thus far (it always kept the temps in my tubs at the proper 86.) Well.... the egg-box Accu-rite read 92!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am really worried. I never anticipated this rise in temps. It was literally overnight that this happened; last nights temp was 87. No biggie there; it has gone from 86-87 all through incubation in the tubs. But how the hell did THIS happen?? Is it maybe because the babies are starting to generate more heat or something as they mature? I never, ever read about this or anything.. now I am ready to have a heart attack I am so upset.. and of course mark, my knight in armor, is gone until probably 1am..
ARGGH! Please give me your opinion here honestly. Are the eggs fried and doomed or is this a minor thing?
I rigged it so that the Helix is at 87. After a few hours, it is steady in tub at 87. I am sick with worry here..
There were no changes in humidity, or heck, even the room temp was the same from yesterday to today.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, especially if you are past the first 3-4 weeks of incubation. 92 isn't that high of a spike, and I'm guessing it wasn't even for that long. We had our incubator spike to about 93-94 last season for at least a day, possibly up to two days, and had no problems at all. Hope that helps calm your nerves Jen.

Thanks man; I really hope they'll be ok. Tomorrow is Day 40 for her clutch. The other clutch did not spike like this, but it is not as old.. I ope that they are ok as well. The almighty factor, time, will tell I guess.

I have read that as the eggs mature they will generate heat. Hope everything turns out fine.

    Re: more incubator woes? Yes.

    Jen,
I will concur with Evan on this one. A spike that minor should not be cause for concern. However, knowing what happened to your last clutch, I know you are worried to death. Those eggs should be fine.

To clarify what D said, yes eggs willl start to generate heat towards the end of incubation. However, I have never noticed any of mine generate heat like that at day 40. Normally the box starts to heat up around day 50.

    Hope that helps,

    Re: more incubator woes? Yes.

Well I am happy to say hat temps are now stable at 87 in the egg boxes I know that the power flickered no/of that day.. maybe for smoe reason the box retained heat..? I dno't know, but I am glad that things are back to normal now. All of the eggs look fine.
