i was just wondering if anyone can tell me if they know how well of an insulator the reptibark (compressed brick thngy) is??????

Hmm...Reptibark is NOT the compressed brick, that's Bed-a-Beast. As far as good humidity retention, the best so far on this site seem to be Cypress mulch (which I just started using and it's working great) and coconut fiber bedding.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by 'insulator' though...

by insulator i ment how much heat from the heat pad will it let through the compared to other sudstrates? sorry about the cnfusion!

Hmm...since most of the reptiles I've owned/cared for have been bedded on newsprint or repticarpet, I wouldn't truthfully be able to say. I believe the main thing in how much heat gets through would be how MUCH bedding you put down. From what I've heard, most herps only need about an inch and that allows the heat through just fine. The main thing to remember is to put your t-stat probe on the heat mat itself and put the thermometer probe on top of the substrate. That way you get the right temps where you need them...as I was told by the very helpful Mlededee.
I can say; when using newsprint or other papers, at least three layers are recommended.
