Advice on provent-a-mite.
I was going to start treating all reptiles as a precautionary step in the future. Can anyone tell me how mant tubs 1 can will treat? And, is it safe for tortoises or other herps? I quarantine everything, but not sure that is doing enough prevention wise. We have all kinds of herps, and I don't want to harm any of them by treating with something not safe.

Re: Advice on provent-a-mite.
I don't know about the safety for torts and other reptiles. I would caution against using it in the enclosure of any animal that eats insects, as it will kill the insects. So, I've never used it with my geckos.
As for how many tubs, it really doesn't take much to treat a tub, and I can't remember where I read that most people actually spray more than they need. A can has lasted me well over a year, and I probably still have 1/2 a can left.
I only use it when I'm bringing in a new animal to my collection. I pre-treat their enclosure. Even though they'll be quarantined, as a pre-caution, at the next cleaning of any of my established colony's tubs, I'll go ahead and re-treat them, just in case I may have carried any mites or mite eggs on my clothing to other parts of the home.
I also like to spray some PAM in the exterior doorways of my home, as I find it also keeps other creepy crawlies from coming inside (like ants or other pesky critters).
PAM also went with me to Daytona last year, and all the travel tubs were pre-treated with it.
I didn't really answer your question though, did I?
