How often do you handle your BPs?

I just inherited a ball python - 11 years old, female, normal - from my father who can no longer care for her. Some work needs to be done on her set-up, but overall she seems healthy and happy.

I found answers to most of my other questions in these forums, but I'm still wondering how often you can handle a BP?

    Thanks!

I handle mine at least once a week

I think it depends on the individual snake. Some snakes don't seem to be bothered at all when you handle them, and others seem to get very stressed. I would suggest that you spend a little time with him a few times a week and get to know him.

I would handle her every day! But I really don't want to stress her out. She's been with me 10 days. I took her out on the 7th. She's currently got a rat in her cage (crossing my fingers she'll take it).

Another question for you guys. She doesn't seem to be able to find the rat. She had him cornered for a minute, then he climbed around to her backside, and she hasn't found him since. Now she's back with just her head out of her hide, waiting... Sound normal?

She's lurking. Ball pythons are ambush hunters so will often use this position to strike prey from cover. Is it her normal time to eat as far as date and time (as in does she normally eat during the daylight hours or at night). Ball pythons are nocturnal so you may find evening feeds work better for some of them. Is this the same size rat, presented in the same way she's used to? Ball pythons are very funny snakes about habits they are used to and tend to be very prey specific. They want their dinner, in the way they are used to getting it, when they are used to getting it. No wonder they are called "royal pythons" LOL.

LOL not royal because they look regal, because they certainly do not... But they CAN be royal pains in the butt for sure...

Every other day is good. I switch off 1 day for my Blood then 1 day for my BP. I do it for about 10-15 minutes.
