    Possible set up for BP

Okay I posted before about my daughter who had to read up and take a test before getting her BP. Well she's been reading but we haven't tested her yet as we hadn't planned to buy until Daytona.

However she has set up a possible cage for her soon to be snake. It's an old tank a friend gave us when she no longer kept baby torts in it. I told her we'd buy a tupperware until the BP is big enough for a display type cage but she wants to be able to see into the cage. Please ignore the dial thermo/hydro stats as those are left over from when the tank was given to us I just haven't pulled them out yet. Currently there is the one digi thermo, some fake vines, two hides, a water dish, the reptile carpet and that's about it all stuff my daughter purchased with money she earned.

So she asked if I would post the picture of the cage to get any input on what she's done so far. Please remember the dial stuff will be replaced with digi and there is currently no heat source.

    Thanks...

That looks pretty good. Nice job your daughter did! Just a suggestion that you can go with an even smaller water dish as bp's don't need anything big enough to encourage soaking in but that dish may appear actually bigger than it it. Also she might want to cover the back and two sides with a tank background, leaving just the front open for viewing. That way the snake will feel less exposed but she'll be able to see her new pet. You can buy tank backgrounds at most pet stores or if you have a decent printer you can just print out something appropriate and slip it into the edges of the outside of the tank.

I think it's wonderful that you are introducing your child to responsible pet ownership this way.

Thank you both. She keeps moving the vines around trying to get the right look. Currently she has black construction paper taped around the ends and back of the tank. We didn't have enough of it so she used it length wise leaving about a 1 inch gap at the top (which is the white in the picture because that what color the wall is). She did that because she wanted to give the BP more security in it's cage...LOL.. she's been doing her homework.

Next time we are in the store I'll let her pick out a background as it will most likely look cleaner then what she's done.

From the looks of the cage and everything it looks as if shes been reading up quite well. Some flexxwat and a good thermo and you should be just about ready to go. I also think its fantastic that you're having her study the correct husbandy for the snake, way to go . You'll probably end up loving the snake as much as she does, my parents do, and I think they are more upset that the snake is gone rather than me when I go to college haha just joking .

Ahhh now I see! I assumed that was just the wall color through the glass...silly me. You can even check out ends of wallpaper rolls and so forth for designs that please her eye. It doesn't have to be specifically backgrounds from a pet store (I think they are a bit overpriced to be honest). Anything that looks right to her and can slip into the gap between the glass and plastic/metal tank edging really does fine.

Kyle, that's because the snake doesn't borrow the car and forget to gas it up, bring home it's buddies to raid the fridge and play loud and crappy music that makes the parents cringe! LOL

Re: Possible set up for BP

Well we bought the rest of the set up stuff for her today at the FIRExpo in Orlando. We also got her a male BP 3 wks old to go in the cage!! It's all set up now temp on the warm is 92 ... temp on the cool is 81 and the humidity is at 63 all being shown on her new digi thermo/hydro stats.

Thanks for the input... she's in total awe of her new pet "Flames".
