Re: Thermostat Help
If you want a true on/off effect then I suggest either Ranco or Johnson (brands) . These have a temp probe and then you set a high temp and an offset. So say 95 and 5 degrees means that it turns off at 95 and will turn back on at 90.
For a little more money Helix or Herpstat (brands) are proportionaly thermostats meaning instead of on/off they supply power at varying degrees to hold the temp at what you set it. So say 95...when it falls to 94 a little power it given...if it falls fast to 90 a lot of power is provided. The end result is they usually hold temps to a degree.
www.reptilebasics.com will have both options and if you ask will pre-wire them so you can just plug them in when you get them.

More or less...the Ranco/Johnson can be bought "raw" meaning you do all the wiring - or pre-wired which will have a wall power cord and a the plug in end already wired up.
The helix/herpstats come in 2 flavors (grounded and non-grounded) but they are all wired to go out of the box.

Re: Thermostat Help
never heard of salamander thermostats... do you have a link or something i tried googling it but nothing struck me. might want to check and make sure they will work for a reptile enclosure.
i know the ranco and johnson control thermostats are used for other things then keeping reptiles, in fact my old restaurant used to have one in a walk-in cooler. it was set in cooling mode so if it got to warm from going in and out, it turned on the fans and got things down to the set temp.

Re: Thermostat Help
they call them salmander or reddy heaters which i hear work good for helping heating garages. i found this one that works liek i want and is a lil bit cheaper. this should do the job right http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog/...at-with-probe/

Re: Thermostat Help
i am gonna go ahead and advise you to not buy that thermostat. i have heard many stories about it, from fluctuating temps to it sticking on and leaving the heating element to run full power. not a very reliable thermostat.
go for a ranco or a johnson control. they are quality and can handle alot of power. i have my rack running on a JC. if you have the funds, lot of keepers use helix or herpstats. they are alittle more on the expensive side, but are worth every penny.
try reptilebasics.com Rich is a great guy and will help you out.
