Really sad lost my baby...
My BP lost the fight last night. He had gotten some type of infection from a mouse bite. I have been having problems lately with feeding him live where he has been getting bitten because when he gets the mice he either got them so their mouths were right against his skin or their head was free enough to nip him. He has regurged once in the past two months and when he was bitten he would lose all interest in feeding I have tried F/T but he never would even touch them, so I tried to feed him pre-killed mice three weeks ago and he ate them so I thought the problem was under control. Unfortunately I should have taken him to the vet because he had an internal infection that didn’t show on the outside and could have been a contributing factor for his feeding issues.
I noticed two weeks ago when I was cleanign his cage that he looked sick so I rushed him to the emergency vet. They told me to up his temp of the whole cage to 100 degrees and soak him three times a day and give him antibiotic shot every other day. He was starting to recover he was really active and actually shed as well.
But last night I was checking on him before I went to bed and he wasn’t moving so I opened the top and went to pick him up and he was limp and the life was gone from his body.
I really cant believe he is dead, I have had him for I think just about 10 years.
He was my little boy that loved to curl around my neck he loved that and got all warm from my body heat.
Now he is gone..I know that he isnt like a dog or anything but I still loved him all the same. I am still stunned that he died, and from a mouse bite. Can rodents transmit diseases? I wish I had the money to have an atuopsy
to find out

Sorry for your loss.
But 100 degrees? I would guess that long term exposure to that temperature could have been what did him in...antibiotics combined with normal, optimal temperatures should have taken care of anything internal.

Re: Really sad lost my baby...
I'm sorry to heat your little guy died , it is always hard to lose a beloved pet, especially one that has been a part of your life for so long.
If you don't mind me asking, was the Vet you went to a herp Vet? I agree with Brad, long-term exposure to 100 degrees did nothing to help the infection. Bumping the cool end temps up a few degrees is the most I would ever recommend to help fight infection, and even then I wouldn't do so if the animal was being treated with antibiotics. I would highly doubt your Vet is very knowledgable about herps, find a new one.
Once again, you have my condolences for your loss.

the vet wasnt certified but she was the only vet that had studied herp and treated lizards and snakes, Since then I have looked up and found a vet that is near me, All the vets were closed as it was 6pm on Sat so I had to take it to a emergency vet that was a hour away from where I live.
