    Exclamation Lost Scales!

My pastel shed last night and this morning when I took him out, I noticed that he lost scales on his head it seams. I'm not sure why, I had eveything in his enclosure the same, the humidity was at 69% for shedding. Is this something that will fix itself after next shed? I just dont understand how it can happen in the first place. Here are some pics.

    Re: Lost Scales!

Are you sure they're missing scales? Or just discolored? My BP will occasionally have a small splotch or two of gray scales after a shed, usually on the head or neck area. It's totally random and always disappears after the next shed. And she's never had any difficulty with complete, clean sheds. Adam says its harmless.

If the scales ARE missing.... I dunno. Maybe the snake got a little too enthusiastic about shedding and that part of the skin wasn't ready to let go of the old yet?

    Re: Lost Scales!

I also have this same problem. I bought a juvenile bp at a pet store about a week and a half ago and shortly after getting him I noticed scales that look like the op's scales appearing in patches on my snakes body. He doesn't have it on his head, just in like clumps of 2 or 3 scales, and 1 really big patch on his side. I'm not sure when the last time he shed was, he hasn't shed since I got him. Hes only about a foot and a half long, in a 20 gallon tank, 90 degrees on 1 side, 80 on the other, 2 hides on each side, 60-70% humidity. The patches feel rough to the touch. He's a real sweetheart, eats regularly, and this is the only problem I have noticed since getting him. Any help on how this happens and can be stopped would be appreciated.

Ya Jlc, my scales aren't completely missing, just discolored (black being grey, brown being a much lighter brown, both not being shiny at all). So this corrects itself after a shed? Thats good to know.

The scales arn't "missing" exactly but more discolored or like he shed so well thta all his color came off there. But its good to here it's harmless. thanks.
