Getting first BP but from a distance

    Hi folks

I am getting my first BP, have a lovely amel corn and 2 snows on the way. I have been offered a friends BP but they live in England and I live in Ireland, so the BP would be transported in the back of my Jeep.

I have a spare heat mat and invertor to power it but is there anything I can do to lessen the stress of a 15+ hour journey which includes a ferry.

    Hi and welcome to BP.net!

For the snake, I'd get a pillowcase and turn it inside out and use that for a snake bag. Place the snake inside and tie the top securely closed. Then place the bagged snake in a small, insulated box that's well padded to prevent shifting. The snake will be fine in that for up to 24 hours or so.

That is excellent, I have a small box that will do so will pack that as well. I am just worried that there could be a delay that may take me over the 24 hours

I'm sure the snake will still be fine. I moved cross-country with mine and had her in her travel box for 2.5 days. I didn't like it and was concerned about her, but I thought it would be even more stressful pulling her out and putting her back every day. She did just fine. I would just prefer to limit the box-time to 24 hours.

I will be doing everything I can to ensure she is only out of her rack for 24 hours will even be collecting her on the day of travel. Will post back with results and pics once the move is complete and she is in her new home

I may have a slight problem. I arrive in the UK on the 9th departing the 15th but now they want me to collect the BP on the 10th. I do have heat mat, thermostat and can get a tub big enough, she is 4.5 feet long. What concerns me is that she will be moved twice in a short time. Is there anything I can do to keep her from over stressing

Hi and welcome to BPNet. Not much you can do under the circumstances other than pick her up, have the temporary arrangment warmed up and stable and ready for her and just pop her in. I'd personally not mess with her much as far as handling and feeding, then get her back home, pop her into her permanent home which should be already set up and leave her be another week. A bigger healthy adult won't mind missing a feed or two and if she's under a lot of stress it's best to not try to feed her anyways. As long as she's got access to clean water, a quiet secure place to be she'll likely do fine.

The only thing I would add is ask the current owner not to feed her several days before...then you should not attempt to feed her till she is in her new permanent home for a week. This will lessen the stress on her and likelihood she will regurge the meal from all the moving.

Yeah I was thinking this. At the last minute, I discovered a tub that will be excellent, it is better than the one I had set up, so having to change the setup here to suit.

Hope to have pics done once she is in her new home
