    The Possom Rat

Been working on getting up breedable sized rats and about a month ago i got an all white 300+ gram large female rat. Had her in with my male on several occasions and she still isnt prego, the first thought was maybe the male was suffering from some kinda disorder where he couldnt make babies. But he just fathered one litter of 13 and got another ready to pop. Back to this big rat it has an almost retarded look to it, a flatish type top of head and ears that stick out more to the side than the top. Which gives this rat an almost possom appearance. Is this some kinda special breed of rat that is unable to mate properly with a normal male rat or am i searching to hard for the answer that i may just not have got lucky with the last few breedings?

Does it look like a Dumbo Rat? I have bred these for awhile without noticing any issues with breeding them.

    Re: The Possom Rat

It does kinda look like that, kinda hard to tell cuz that one looks like a baby. But pretty sure thats it. They dont have to be breed to a dumbo rat do they and is that a genetic trait that will pass to her babies?

    Re: The Possom Rat

One or both of your rats carry Dumbo, but don't show it outwardly(they are top ears). There is nothing wrong genetically/physically with dumbos that can cause them to not breed, it's just an ear type that is bred for.

    Re: The Possom Rat

I believe so, because the rat has to either have dumbo ears or carry dumbo to produce babies with that type of ears.
