Diego Comes For an Extended Visit
A young man Mike works with needed a foster home for his young BCI (named Deigo) while he works out of town for the next few months so we are now a two boa house for awhile. We'll get some shots of Deigo later tonight to post. We need to do a bit of work on his caging situation. He's not in bad shape, a bit thin but not horribly so, some retained shed which we'll get off him and very squirmy about being handled. I think he may not have been handled a lot so we'll slowly get him a bit more comfortable with that. He's a bit smaller than Severus but we don't have a confirmed hatch date on him so age is a bit of guesswork. He may in fact be a she but we'll try to figure that out when we weigh him and give him a good hands on once over later tonight. Then it's time for a good quiet settle in, some yummo weekly rat meals and a bit of gentle but firm handling.
Pics to follow later.

Re: Deigo Comes For an Extended Visit
Quick question here folks. I've never seen the type of bedding this snake has been kept on. I think it may be the stuff they call "Yesterday's News", very dark in color, very compressed sort of small tube-like stuff. We're stripping his tank out tonight and setting him up like Sev is but is there anything I should know about this bedding he's been on? Any risk factors associated with keeping a boa on this stuff (as in if he's ingested any during feeding, etc.) I don't imagine it's a huge deal but I like to be pro-active/informed if there's anything I need to watch for.

Re: Deigo Comes For an Extended Visit
No, I wouldn't think so. It's just pelleted, recycled paper, and if ingested wouldn't cause any harm. Probably uncomfortable though!

Re: Deigo Comes For an Extended Visit
Thanks Becky! I didn't think it would be too much of a health issue but it sure doesn't feel nice to my touch. I wouldn't want to lay on it or try to burrow under it if I was a snake...blech!
Oh my spanish friends or just those of you that spell well...is it "Deigo" or "Diego"????

Re: Deigo Comes For an Extended Visit
LOL Jamie, the livingroom will eventually become the living/boa room, the spoiled BP's of course have their own room (though they have to bunk in with the rat colony...somehow they don't seem to mind that LOL). We just finished bugging poor Diego - thanks for the spelling Jamie...you're the man!. He probed as a male, got the stuck shed off his nostril area, gave him a good going over, he's pink bellied and dark toned so I'm thinking he's about to shed, weighed in at a decent 1,438 grams...oh...and he bit Mike - the official welcome to the family thing...everything bites Mike!
Pics to follow as soon as I upload and see which ones came out halfways decent.

Re: Diego Comes For an Extended Visit
Thanks Leesha but this was Mike all the way hon. The young man who owns Diego works with Mike so when Mike heard about the situation he offered our home for this summer. He's been helping Diego's owner with suggestions and so forth for awhile now.
