    raytek MT4

i was just wondering if anyone used this non contact thermometer, or any other kinds of infrared thermometers. i am looking in the the MT4 cause of the price (i can get it for $45 at carquest). i have read Rich's FAQ and even looked some info up online, but i just want to hear from users of this device.

can i use this instead of an acurite, or should i supplement it? i will be using a rack, so should i just keep one acurite in a drawer and use the MT4 to check the other drawers?

    thanks

technically you don't NEED anything. except for a way to control temperatures. most people may not agree with that statement, but really the extraneous thermometers are to make sure nothing goes wrong, but mainly just to give a piece of mind. each keeper may have different ways of doing things, so if you feel comfortable with just that then it's your decision, that also won't measure ambient air temps, only contact temps as far as i know. so thats another consideration.

I have 3 accurites in my 5 drawer rack. One in the top, middle, and bottom I trust these for my ambient air and humidity levels. I also move them around if a snake goes into shed to monitor humidity. I then have a PE-1 (think thats the model) infrared temp gun that I use to check my suface temps on the floor of the tubs. I would personally recommend at least one accurite you can move around to keep an eye on your ambient temps and humidity throughout your enclosure that supplements the use of the temp gun which measure the oh so important surface temps on the floor of the enclosure.

I use a Raytek. Great thermometer....I don't know what I would do without it.

You should also check out the Pro-exotics line of thermometers too...I think the price is a little better on them.
