Little Miracle Child(erm.. Rat...)
This is Amaya, and she is my little black hooded harley rex dumbo dwarf. She had recently become pregnant and was far enough along to start going through the labor motions, until everything ceased.. Two days later, I get a call from my breeder friend(who is housing Amaya), that contractions stopped and Amaya is getting thinner and doesn't look good.
(Wednesday)
So I drove 80 all the way to Hillsboro to meet my friend and pick her up, and Amaya looked like warmed over crap... She had a large, painful protrusion in her abdomen that was about the size of a shooter marble. And for a dwarf, that took up her whole abdomen(for a size reference).
So I rushed her to my vet, who wasn't there at the time. My friend Sue, who is also a tech and teaches at the college I went to, looked at her. She suggested she take her home and get her on antibiotics and fluids, and the vet could see her in the morning.
(Thursday)
Surprisingly, Amaya survived the night, and the vet got to look at her that morning. She also gave her more antibiotics and warmed subQ fluids, and Amaya continued to perk up an bit, but her abdomen remained painful and had actually swelled more... The vet opted to take her home with her that night, and if she survived the night, she would take her to Dallas(where her clinic is) and perform surgery.
(Friday)
Amaya survived the night.. At this point, she just REALLY doesn't want to die. It's funny sometimes how much willpower such a tiny body can have.
The vet did exploratory surgery at noon or so, and found that Amaya's uterus had ruptured, and the contents had formed adhesions(connections) to other organs. There were also two dead, and rotting, babies(gives new meaning to rotten children, heh).
But anyway! That was last week. Amaya came home on Tuesday and looks thin, but otherwise is doing great. She is NOT happy about her e-collar, not one bit
Here she is:

Thanks for looking at my little survivor

Aww poor thing, what a rough week she had. I am glad to hear that she made it and came through the surgery okay. Best wishes for a quick recovery too!!!.
Oh and she may hate the e collar but I think it looks cute. I have never seen one so teeny before. Give her a little rub on the belly for me when she's all healed up.

Re: Little Miracle Child(erm.. Rat...)
What an amazing surgery! I can't imagine how tiny her little innards are, or how much skill and delicacy was required to perform that procedure. Here's hoping it worked! I'm amazed she looks so good, for what she's been through.
