Hey well i was reading through these threads i noticed that all the bites you guys talk about come from female snakes. I just bought i girl so i was wondering if they are a lot more aggressive than the males or does it just depend on the snake?

I'm pretty sure it all depends on the snake. My three-year-old female is a big puppy dog who's never bitten anyone save the rats and mice I feed to her. She's definitely a baby in that aspect. My males, on the other hand, are more rambunctious.

Depends on the snake - I have 11 females, I can't say that they are any more likely to bit than my males. I'm pretty fortunate, I have a pretty laid back crew who as a rule don't fear bite, and I "try" not to make SFE's (Stupid Feeding Errors) to elicit a feed drive bite.

I see, im not really afraid to get bit, i suppose their snakes and it happens, i just thought it was interesting that it sounded like mostly girls bite.

Like everybody else said. It all depends on the snake.

I'd say if you have your temps right, your humidity, watch yourself with feeding errors, and just over-all proper care for the snake, you should have a pretty laid back snake, because they're pretty mellow as it is.

Like somebody told me on here when i first got on. People have bad days, as do snakes. If they bite, then that's that.

I have 2 Sugar Gliders, that bite me all the time, and i'll tell you what, i'd rather be bit by my BP any day over my 2 SG girls.

I have a male BP and he's struck at me a few times, got me once. All about the snake.

Bites happen. A careless error of judgement on your part; like putting your hand toward their face while cage-cleaning, etc. Any one can bite at any moment. Just like a dog, cat horse, bird, or wom bat.

I figure that I am more than 4 times as likely to be bitten by a female than a male. Here's why -

First, I have 4 times as many females as males, 6 males and 24 females.

Second, females are VERY protective of their eggs. Chances of being bitten by a female sitting on eggs are purty high, especially if you're trying to take them away from her!

I really don't know the distribution of males to females among most of the members here, but I can say that most breeders will have more females than males, and they will be taking eggs away from females. So, I'm thinking that in an environment such as this forum, bites from females is probably more common than bites from males.

I do think that certain females are very much more likely to bite: females that are on eggs.
