another new corn snake
well days after getting my first corn snake sancho, i fell in love with another one. i took my girlfriend to petco for a new fish and walked by the reptiles like i always do... and i was this lil guy chillin in his tank. i felt kinda bad, i really don't like petco, everytime i go in there noone knows a thing about snakes. they have 4 corn snakes in a 11"x11"(just a guess) tank, with 1 water bowl that was bone dry, and i little piece of drifwood. i thought to myself i gotta get these guys out of here. well i couldn't buy them all, so i settled on one... an amelanistic with some nice orange colors. i also gave the manager some words about how they keep reptile, but im sure it went in one ear and right out the other.
i will get some pictures up, along with my other guy sancho, when i get some free time.

Re: another new corn snake
It was nice that you rescued him, but by buying him, you basically gave the store money for caring for the animals improperly. There are many times that I want to rescue reptiles from bad petstores, but I won't because all that petstore will do is turn around and buy five more to replace the reptile I just bought.
Now, with the Petco down the street from me, they do tend to overcrowd thier animals a bit, but none of the animals 'seems' stressed. They are given proper temps and humidity and are given proper food and water. Also, there was actually someone working there that knew about reptiles and kept and bred them himself. He answered all my questions honestly. For example, I wanted to hold a ball python and he showed me that they were going into shed and that they would probably be a bit nippy and handling them at that time would stress them out and he would rather me hold a different snake. That to me, shows he cares about the animals. That is a good Petco, but I've never been to any others so I have nothing to compare it to.

Where I work (at petco) we have our hatchlings anywhere from 3-7 in an enclosure about 20Long with about 2 inches of bedding, a gigantic water dish and two hides.
So please don't think that they all suck :/
But yay for the new snakey though!

Re: another new corn snake
I like the Petco down the street from me. They know about reptiles and I can always ask questions and know I'll get a right answer. I try not to judge a petstore chain by a few stores. Sometimes, they just hire the wrong people.
From what I've heard, Petco on the whole is a bad chain, but I'm happy with the Petco down the street.

Congrats on the new baby!!!!!!
I know, it is a horrible thing to leave an animal in the care of a place that does not care for it properly. I'm not going to tell you I haven't done it myself, I have. But I report these people now too. You can report them to the humane society and in some cases if its a chain store you can report them to higher ups in the chain.

yea i know giving them money only supports them, but if i didn't buy her, they would have sold her to some 12 year old who thinks its ok to keep the snake in his pocket while he goes to school to show all his friends. the money was nothing to me for the health of an anmial. i have contacted the humane society and they said they have had some complains, but unless something very "dramatic" happens (like a load of animals dying) then they can't really do anything. im not the one for some homemade justice but it might be needed.
