She Followed Me Home - I SWEAR!

So, today is feeding day and I stop by my local pet shop for some mice, and as always see if they have any new adult ball pythons (these are owner surrenders), and lo and behold, there are two in one enclosure up front - I pop both as female. I get them to weigh them for me, one's over 1700 grams, the other is over 1100 grams. Then one of the guys tells me that there's one even bigger in the back, and goes and gets her for me - pops as female - and is 2154 grams.

I tell them to hold her, I'll be right back. Had to run to Walmart to get a tub, kitty litter pan and water bowl. I have a human heat pad that I'll use until I get my flexwatt in. I've used this one before and the lowest setting keeps them right at about 93 degrees.

I've also paid for the 1700 gram one for a friend of mine, and will be picking her up on Monday or Tuesday and shipping her out. I brought my probe sets and re-checked everyone, and the 1100 gram one is a male. The 1700 gram girl has a 3 inch healed dorsal burn, but otherwise appears to be very healthy.

But, this is the girl that I'm keeping! What do you think of her?

Re: She Followed Me Home - I SWEAR!

The nice thing is that she's only been there a couple of days, so that shop hasn't had a chance to kill her yet (they cannot care for ball pythons properly - they won't eat for them).

I can't save them all, but I was happy to add her to my collection - she's not completely reduced, but enough to make me happy - and she's a real sweet heart! She just needs a name - any suggestions?

    Sean,

This store hasn't had adults since last summer, I check every single week! LOL

But the ball pythons that they DO get, are usually adult owner surrenders, so by checking each week, I know that they haven't been in their care for very long.

It's funny, when I first started going there, they absolutely refused to allow me to sex the snakes, they were convinced that probing would sterilize them. Now they see me and say "do you have your probe kit with you? We got some in for you to check out!" I think they like knowing the sexes too so they can tell potential buyers what sex it is.

I tell you, the excitement never goes away when you add a new animal to your collection, no matter what the circumstances!

Poor girl is still in her pillowcase while her enclosure dries from a treatment of PAM (I treat all new snakes with PAM and then next cleaning re-treat the established colony with PAM).

OK, off to go coo at her some more before she gets popped in her tub for her acclimation!
