You can't tell by looking. The only way is to breed it to an albino or another known het albino and see if you get albinos.

Re: How do you ...... ?

Pretty much. In the past that has been a big problem, when 100% het albinos were going for $500,a lot of them now have proven out to be normals. I know of some people pursuing law suits over this.

If you buy a het albino, make sure the breeder is trustworthy.

FWIW, alleged 100% het albinos are going for $75 at my local show.

Also be aware there are 100% hets, 50% and 66% as well so make sure when you are het shopping you know what you are actually shopping for. Since there is no way to know visually if your het is actually a het you need to shop the breeder (which you should be doing anyways, het genetics or not). Het paperwork is only as good as the man or woman who signed it so get to know and develop a good relationship with your breeders of choice and you can't go wrong.

Dean, don't get the impression that hets are not a good thing to buy. They are a great way to get into morphs. Just be cautious who you buy from is all but that's good advice when buying any snake really. We have a 100% het for albino bp and I don't doubt for a second he's carrying that genetic as we purchased him from a very reputable source. When you buy from the best, you buy with confidence.

Re: How do you ...... ?

I second what Joanna said. I am very confident that my three hets are exactly that and not just normals. Two came from Adam Wysocki (the het pied and het hypo) and one came from Justin Kobylka (the het clown). The reason I am confident is because both gentlemen have stellar reputations in the community and were checked out thoroughly before purchasing from them.

You MUST trust your breeder when buying hets. Hets are an awesome way to get into recessives if you can't afford the visible morph!

Re: How do you ...... ?

alrite well I will browse around right now I am looking at a couple of breeders for het albino. One is at superior serpents its a male het albino I hope Lawrence still has it other than that I am still browsing for a female het albino. I am just curious on what size tubs I should use for 2 adult bps. I am currently scrambling around to get theyre housing ready, till thats done I wont buy them.

For a male, this is not unrealistic. I bought mine from Bailey & Bailey Reptiles for $100
