    First boaphile cage

Im about to purchase my first boaphile cage, im getting the 421coupe cage.

I have a question though, ive been using a really great heating pad that is pretty much perfect, the temps stay pretty consistent and im relativley happy with it......wil this melt the cage or damage it in some way if i put it on the new boaphile ??

    Re: First boaphile cage

If you're using a t-stat to control the temps, then it should never get hot enough to melt or crack any type of cage surface.

That being said...the effeciency of the heating device depends a lot on what type of surface it was attached to. What works perfectly on a sterelite tub may not work nearly as well on the thicker, denser plastic of a boaphile cage. Not saying it won't work...just saying it may work differently than you expect it to.

Personally....if/when I finally get to go with a professionally made cage from boaphile or AP or whatever, I'll go with the installed heat, as it is designed to work well with that specific cage.

    Re: First boaphile cage

I just ordered my second boaphile 421 coupe. I absolutely love them!

I wouldnt worry about it hurting your cage. I do however highly recommend boaphiles heating systems. They use low wattage heat tape, so even full force, they will not get hot enough to burn your snake. Now control that with a thermostat or a rheostat and you have double protection from overheating.

I think it is well worth it to get boaphiles heat tape.

    Good Luck!

    Re: First boaphile cage

    Ok, thanks everyone.

    Green_man what heating sytem do you have on your coupe ? X 1, X 1.5, or X 2

also what thermostat did you buy for it ??

AND....just to be clear you have to purchase all of this seperate from the cage itself right ?

    Re: First boaphile cage

I got the 1.5 for both of them. Right now I do not have a thermostat. I am using rheostats until I get enough money to buy the double thermostat by Ranco.
Rheostats work well too, you just need to pay more attention to your temps. The heating is sold seperately with the boaphiles, but it isn't too expensive.

I got a grey 421 coupe with the optional black hinges, the flourescent lighting, and the 1.5 heating for like 315.

    Heres couple pics:

Just a quick question, is there a reason why you are going with the dual rancos?

actually nix that, I probably will be going singles... looks like the doubles are just a second safety, I thought it would control two different heat sources... guess not
