It looks like black velvet to me. I don't know how much detail you can see on your computer, but I can actually see bits of dust and what might be the nap of the velvet.

It does make for a stunning albino background!

That pic was not photoshopped, very easy to get a background like that. heres a pic that was shot on a black plastic sweater box rack. you can lay down a piece of black velvet also.
