Incubator finally on... a few pic's

New incubator this year, it came out of a hospital and was used to store drugs than needed to be keep cool. I took the compressor out wired up heat tape as the primary heat source running on one fuse with back to back rancos and then also ran the small ceramic heater on another fuse with back to back rancos as well. Its double paned glass that is argon gas filled and holds heat incredible well. The heat tape only has to turn on for 5 minutes or so and the unit will then hold the temp at 89 for nearly an hour before the heat has to go back on...

I finally got my first clutch Saturday morning an albino to a het albino, 7 eggs and then my second clutch Saturday afternoon from a male bumble bee to a normal and that was 7 eggs as well.

And of course a quick shot of Ethan.... pic a few weeks old now but a nice one none the least....

yes the non stop drooling has started already at 4 months old......

WOW I am jealous....that is very nice. Good luck with the eggs too

    A couple of quick questions:
Are you using the fans at top to ciruclate the air? If so how are you regulating their speed?
Second, what is the benefit of the ceramic heater at the bottom...wouldn't it heat up too fast and create a big hot spot?

Again nice find and looks hot.

Nice ... do you use the fans in there to circulate air? And also I am assuming the tub in the bottom is for keeping the humidity in the whole incubator closer to the humidity in the tubs?

I was thinking of something like this (a little smaller) for next year ...

Re: Incubator finally on... a few pic's

The fans are on a dimmer switch and pull air up and blow it down the (inside) back of the unit. I've got all 3 running on a low setting.

    The tub is for water.

The ceramic heater is a back up low heater. I've got a few trips that I've got to make this year where I'll be gone for a week or so and while heat kills eggs quicker than anything else I also want to protect the low side as well.

The heat tape has a back up ranco on it to shut it down completely if so some how it malfunctions and hits 91 degrees (or if the fuse blows) it completely shuts down.

The cermic heater is set at 86 degrees as it does heat up quicky. It only turns on if the unit hits 85.

I've also got a temp sensor on the whole unit thats hooked into the security system of the house to call me if the unit is below 87 or over 90.
