How long after a snake eats his first mouse do you offer a second?

I am going to offer my 7 month old BP it's second mouse, he already ate his first. How long should I give him before offering the second? Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hi,

I just let mine get her jaws realigned and go back into the "feed me" position and then offer the second.

Usually takes mine about a minute or two to look settled and ready again after finishing eating the first one.

If she is big enough to eat 2 pry items...why wouldn't you move them up to small rats? Is there a reason you haven't switched her to rats?

Re: How long after a snake eats his first mouse do you offer a second?

    Thanks for the help guys.

The reason I am feeding him the two mice is because I bought 5 F/T when I picked him up at NERD. Last week for his first feeding I gave him one and tonight I gave him two. Next week I will give him the last two and then switch him over to small rats. Anyway he gobbled down the second one without hesitation. He swallowed the second mouse back side first which was a first.

    Thanks again guys.

Did you giggle at him as he swallowed it backward?

Mine are pretty steady on the number they eat. When serving F/T I put them in at same time and they eat at their leasure. Never put multiple live prey items in. Your snake could be seriously hurt.

Re: How long after a snake eats his first mouse do you offer a second?

I have 1 that eats 2 mice rather then one small-small rat...he's a PITA an most of the time wont eat the second mouse even though I have one that is the exact same size (well was) and he chomps a small-small every week with out question. I did get Rajiv to eat a rat once though but it was as small as a mouse

I'm going to start breeding the darn things just so everyone will be eating rats...its a pain to go and get 2 lil ol mice each week....

Re: How long after a snake eats his first mouse do you offer a second?

There's no reason you have to switch him over to rats and there's no absolute guarantee he will switch over. BP's do quite fine on mice their whole lives if they are given the appropriate volume weekly. Rats might be easier on you but realistically you can't just assume the snake will take a rat if it's used to mice. The largest of our 05 females is a lifelong mouser and she's doing beautifully on her multiple mice per week. I'd prefer she'd be on rats for my convenience but in the end it's all about what the snake will take with a consistent and aggressive feeding response.

If you are going to try the switch I wouldn't suggest going from a mouse or two up to a small rat. That's a very large jump in prey size for your snake to deal with. Small rat pups or even big rat fuzzies are about the size of an adult mouse so you might want to try that first and see how it goes or just leave the snake eating what it likes and consider yourself blessed with a good feeding response.
