I couple of questions on sexing and feeding

My new ball is 21 inches long and 4-6 months, is it too big to be safely popped? There is no one I can go to get him probed.

What is a good feeding schedule? once a week or so? I don't want to over feed him.

If you don't know what you're doing, the don't even attempt to pop your snake.

Is the sex of your snake really that important?

I feed once a week. I think a majority of people do the same. Good luck

I know how to pop, I just don't know what the safe size to do so is for a ball.

No they can be pooped at any age however only someone with experience should do it, do not attempt it yourself.

Good feeding schedule would be once a week, a prey slightly smaller then the girth size and nothing bigger then a small rats (4 weeks old) when your BP will be full grown.

I'm going to sound like a complete jerk..but how is it you know how to pop a snake (not something everyone knows how to do) yet not when and what size to feed... *shrugs*

Good job if you do know how to pop ...I'm still working on getting it down pat... *sighs*

Popping is a technique where you push out the genitals of the snake.

There is a certain technique that you have to know, and it can, if done wrong, be harmful to your snake.

I know how to pop because I learned it on my corn snakes by watching kathy loves video. You should never pop a corn over 18", I assumed there was a cut off size on BP's too.
I asked about feeding because BP's are different from young corns who eat every 4-6 days prey that is bigger then they are wide.

@melanie, popping is when you manually pop the males hemi out of the vent. if nothing pops out then its a female (usually). It can cause alot of damage if done improperly.

and to add to that, generally when you get a snake sexed, if nothing is popped and it looks to be a female, most people will then probe it to be 100% sure of the sex. When I bought my baby girl we check almost 10 snakes before we found some females. The worker had a few that when he did it by hand were potential females, but when probed only 2 ended up actually being females.

Wouldnt probing be alot easier and safer from the beginning?

Sure would be but I live in a town with a populatoin of 200, no one to probe, no one to teach me how and I don't really like the idea of sticking a rod up my snakes butt when I don't know what I'm doing.
