    Outdoors and B.Ps

I know B.Ps can easily get stressed, but I want to take out my BP for the summer since its getting warm, hes a nice guy just want to show him off a bit . Do BPs take long to get used to people or outside in general ?

Many people will probably tell you this isn't a good idea. Snakes "tolerate" handling rather than really accept it. Taking them outside should not be an issue but you should really think about what you plan on doing. "Showing off" your snake in a high concentration of people or crowds is probably not the best idea and will stress the snake.

    Re: Outdoors and B.Ps

It's your snake so in the end it's your decision but for me there's a big difference between taking one of our snakes outside on a warm day to just sit quietly with it on our own porch compared to walking around with it through our neighbourhood. It's a snake, not a puppy so to my mind it will never understand why you are hauling it around, won't get much out of the experience and may react poorly to it in a number of ways.

Should it hiss, strike out or bite someone you'll end up dealing with that and I expect it won't be a fun thing. Don't get me wrong, I love educating the general public about snakes but I don't like putting our snakes in a uncontrolled situation where things might go badly for all concerned.

My neighbors don't even know I have snakes and I like to keep it that way. We may think it's cool but most people freak out. Use common sense. People think snakes are evil (stupid) and they will react negatively alot of the time.

I plan on taking mine out to get some pics, but def wont be around people. Gonna take him out back in my yard and let him get some sun and crawl around in the grass a bit to get some fresh air, but taking him around people wouldnt be a good idea, they get stressed easily and just in general i would like people touching him. My new baby girl has only been home for 4 days, so she def isnt going anywhere.

    Re: Outdoors and B.Ps

For me, it depends on the snake and where you are taking them. I have one adult male BP that likes to come out of his cage. he is a great eater, crawls out to meet you when you open the tub and is in great health. I have another that I rarely handle as he is much more shy and prefers to be left alone.

I take Brazak (the active and sociable male) to Outreach shows our Herp society participates in. Those are the only times I take my snakes into "public", mostly because you can never know when a person has a real snake phobia. Most people that have phobias of dogs and cats know to NOT go where they are...people with snake phobias do not expect to see one walking down the street around someone's neck and this can cause real problems.

Use common sense in going outside and you will be fine. Again, it all depends on the snake and where you're going.

I once took my BP outside to play in the grass and one of my neighbors called and complained... she said i left the snake unattended and that the snake slithered all the way upstairs without supervision.

I thought it was rather funny considering i was holding her the whole time we were outside.

Well I was thinking a nice walk on the board walk near the beach for the summer... I've seen other people do it with their snakes, just wondering.....

Mmm... on a board walk, I don't think I'd recommend it. When people use their snakes to channel attention towards themselves, it kinda bugs me. I hope that's not what you're going for.
Some people have a real fear of snakes, I would respect the fact that they didn't come for a nice walk on the beach to see something terrifying to them.

Shoot, I don't know. Just use common sense.

I agree - your snake probably would enjoy a little bit of time outside in your own yard, rather than strolling on a boardwalk which will only be for your pleasure, as your snake will not get any pleasure from it.
