    night lighting

i have my BP in a room that is very light durring the day but when the sun goes down it gets very dark... i was wondering what kind of lights i can use at night to i can see the lil guy, like for feeding and such. i have a red heat lamp that is on a thermostat so it goes off every now and then, and it really doesn't give a lot of red light to see with. would a black light be ok to view him?

when ever i feed my BP he will bite and coil the F/T mouse, but if it's not completely dark or he see's me watching he won't eat it. he is still very young and i have only fed him 3 times. i was wondering if there was a kind of light that he couldn't see, like if the black light was on would it still be dark to him? i don't really know to much about snakes eye sight, i thought it was more infrafed and heat sensing then light.

A black light would be fine. Another idea you might want to try is to get a regular desk lamp and put it on a dimmer, then just dim it enough so you can see him.

However, don't be surprised if he still gets "spooked" with a black light or dim light on. They are still pretty good at sensing movement in a dark room, but it's worth a shot.

A black light would be fine, but they put out a lot of heat. Whatever you choose, be sure to monitor for temperature changes it may cause.

And you may have to give up watching him eat if he's shy and just let him eat in the dark. He'll likely grow out of that shyness as he gets bigger.

kiara was a very shy eater when we got her. we had to drape a towel over her so she couldn't see us... but that only lasted the first few feedings. now she only has a problem if there's too much noise.
