    Exoterra UTH

I had purchased a couple these heaters, they look kinda like flex wat, very thin pads with no regulating knob or anything. If anyone knows what i am talking about maybe you can answer my question. Now that i have it i was reading the directions and it sais only use on glass tanks, im guesing they say this because it stick to the bottom of the tank. I am useing tubs. Do i have to stick it on to the buttom, cant i just place it under the tub and use it that way? though i dont know which side the heat will come from and i dont want to mess it up...any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a few of those maybe I think. I just slide them underneath without exposing the adhesive and just let it be, works fine for the rackless tubs.

nope peeling it off won't mess anything up, and I'm not sure direction matters, but I put them adhesive side up anyway since that seems to be where they want it stuck on

cool, sry to kill you with questions but did you use spacers? or is there some air space between the heater and the tub? or is it cool for it to touch

    Re: Exoterra UTH

I have a couple of those. I think that the directions recommend that you use spacers of some sort. In fact, either my tank or the UTH itself came with some. As for peeling off the backing and sticking it to the enclosure, I wouldnt. I hear they are a pain to pull off should it be necessary to do so, and that it often bends and breaks the elements inside the pad becuase it is so thin.

Here's what I did put into directions:

Turn your encolsure upside down and place the UTH (backing intact and facing down) onto the bottom. Then take as many 8.5"x11" sheets of regular printer paper and place them over the UTH until it is no longer visible. Then tape down the edges of the paper with duct/masking tape. This should hold the UTH firmly against the bottom of the enclosure and keep it in excellent condition so it will work for a long time and be very easy to relocate.

It's late, I'm tired. Hopefully that all makes sense. Sorry for any typos.
Advice is what you ask for when you already know the answer but wish you didn't.

    Re: Exoterra UTH

I would recommend putting the probe inside the tank. I've got mine under the newspaper below the warm hide -- it's right next to the thermometer probe, actually -- that way you know how warm it is where the snake actually will be.

    Hope that helps.

    Re: Exoterra UTH

well i have a digital therm/hygrometer inside the tank also, i remmember reading some people like to put it on the heat pad itself incase the snake moves it and alters the readsing, then again if its falls off the heating pad than that will prabbably make it get alot hotter, i gues its just personal preference.. thanks you were very helpfull

    Re: Exoterra UTH

for what it's worth, I don't use spacers with tubs, I only use the spacers on tanks because the tanks are heavier. I figure the tub won't do much damage
