Yes. Usually it's off by a couple of degrees... I keep mine set at 96 to get it 93 in my tub. Basically, you play around with it, until the temp inside is what you want it, then leave the thermostat set to that temp.

This is where those spot checking temp gun thermometers that pro-exotics sell come in so handy. I've got a couple of them and use them every day.

I tried putting my probes directly on the flexwatt inside and underneath and it seemed like the probe on my HerpStat Pro read 94 exactly, but never reached but 82-84 in my tubs...I know it can be trail and error, but it's something that I'm constantly struggling on..I can never get it right.

I put mine outside, so when the snake spills water it wont end up frying your snakes.

Put it right on the flexwatt, I mean right on it, not next to it or above it, then set your thermostat to 95 and let it sit for one hr, writing down the temps in the tub every 10 minutes, get a temp range ex. 87-89

ok so 95 on therm gives 87-89 in tank
then go 96 and wait one hr etc etc till you got it.

I just went through this with my new rack and a ranco on/off style thermostat took about 24hrs to get it right, now im doing the same thing with humidity/drilling holes.

    BEST ADVICE RIGHT HERE
get an acurite thermometer from walmart this model im showing is awsome, you put the probe on the hot side and the unit itself on the cool side, also does humidity, and the best part, it give you max and min temps both at the probe and at the unit itself.

I dont think water would hurt the probe because people use Ranco's in aquariums.

I put my thermostat probe right on my UTH and then I put the prob for my thermometer in the bedding where his hide is. So whatever I need to do to get the temp to read 94-96 is where I leave the thermostat at.
