    Toilet Issues for my BP.

Ok, without too much fuss what am I looking for here and how often.

I think I have the number twos sorted - after every eat or shed and looks like dog poo but what about a number one? Ok so its white stuff like bird poo I guess but how often and do I need to upset my BP hunting around its home looking for it!

Also I have a ceramic lamp secured to the ceiling of my viv with a metal cage around it as recommended and provided by my rep shop. Should I worry that Brian has on a couple of occasions showed some interest in it. He can't touch the actual bulb only the surrounding cage but I have touched it and think its quite hot.

    Ta all,

Wish me luck for Friday as we are going for our first feed.

    Chris

The white stuff is Urates a third form of waste produced by your snake. Urine normally accompanys urates so if you see urates then there urine somewhere. Depending on the substrate its easier to see than others

Any time the heating element is in the enclosure there is need for concern. If it heats the air it heats the "protective cage" around it. Your animal can be burned this way. I suggest setting up your tank like this.

It is possible to achieve proper temps with an UTH and thermostat only. Hope this helps

Re: Toilet Issues for my BP.

About the wire cage around the heater...you need to be able to put your hand on it and leave it there without feeling any discomfort. If it's too hot for you, it CAN burn your snake. You might need to consider figuring out some other way to heat the enclosure and remove the CHE completely.

As for the bathroom issues....they just go on their own schedule. It's nothing you need to be too concerned about. If you see some in there, clean it out...but you don't need to open up the cage and root around under the hides each and every day. Just check under there anytime you go to change his water or take him out. In my case, just opening the lid, I can tell if there's some urates to clean up just because of a faint, musty odor...but I don't know if that is true of all enclosure types.

    Hey Chris,

Here is a link that shows you how to post pictures on here: http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=32417

Can't wait to see pictures of your little dude!

PS. Don't let this other Mike person run ya away. He's not worth it. Judy is a good Admin so when she says things are being taken care of... she holds her word to it. Most peoples questions don't run off the deep end like this and when they do, they get moved so all the off topic stuff isn't clutering up your question thread.
