Advice On Breeding Mice
What would I need, is this a better idea than buying them from the pet store?
What is needed to get started. And not sure, but do mice grow to be small rats or are those different species?

Re: Advice On Breeding Mice
Mice are mice and rats are rats. Completely different species.
How many snakes do you have and how many mice are you buying per week? I use around 30-40 mice per week on average.
I use laboratory style cages to house my groups of mice. The sizes of groups range from 1.2-1.8. The size of the lab cages are around the 10-gallon tank size. Lab blocks are fed free choice(Mazuri Rodent 9F). They are put together and left completely alone except for cleaning once per week. I use kiln dried pine shavings(low dust) and they do alright on that. I don't mess with them at all during the week, no playing with babies, no separating anyone/adding anyone. They breed and produce great numbers like this.

Re: Advice On Breeding Mice
Holy crap...right now I only have one, but i plan on getting another and my roommate is gonna buy one...so we need about 3 rats a week. Would be 7.50$ at the pet store...but would it be cheaper to just breed them myself?

No, I don't think it will be cheaper for you to breed them yourself with just a demand of 3 a week. Food to feed your rats and their babies and bedding to change out each week will easily exceed $7.50 a week.

Re: Advice On Breeding Mice
If you only are going to feed 3 snakes per week, I think you should stick with buying them from the pet store weekly. Otherwise your mouse/rat production will get out of control....They average around 6-18 babies per litter...and you only need 3 per week....What would you do with all the extras?
