On Sunday, I got off work early mainly because I wasn't feeling good and called my fiance and was invited to come over to a mutual friend's house to watch a movie. I went over and we began watching Vanity Fair. We got to talking about random things and my friend blurts out. "Lets go on a roadtrip." We asked her where and she said "New York." We live in Virginia and thats a long way. I had already been planning on calling sick to work because my stomach was not happy with me (and still isn't) and missing class on Monday. But New York seemed too far. So Aidan suggested DC. We agreed and both my fiance and I called our families to let them know where we were going.
While packing up a change of clothes Aidan says, "I really want to go to New York." And figuring since I had already taken off work and school, I agreed to go to New York. At 10pm, only 1 1/2 hours after deciding to go to New York on a roadtrip, we were on the highway. The drive was 7 hours and there was much singing and joking around. We were traveling in an old manual truck. Aidan drove, fiance was in the passanger seat and I was in the middle with the shift stick between my knees. It was a very small space. We sang to Savage Garden as loud as we could.
We arrived in New York to meet Aidan's friend Maxine and to stay in the dorm there at Vassar college. We crashed in the t.v room on the couches at 6am and slept until 10am. Then we got up, had breakfast/lunch and went to meet one of Maxine's friends. We hung out, watched movies and then left around 5pm to go back home. On the way home we hit traffic in New Jersey and sang loud to Bon Jovi. We arrived home at 2am this morning.
I must say this was the most random thing I've done and it was awsome. (Our family still thought we were going to DC. They don't know we went up to New York instead.) It was nice to get away from the constant routine that had been making up my week. For just a day I had no worries (except when it came to cops on the road.) and no responsibilities.
