What about adding another hideso that one is on the cool and one is on the warm, it looks like he may not be completely secure in his cage, so he may be tunneling to find a safe place, and if there isn't one on the warm side but in the middle, he is trying to get warm and feel safe at the same time.

    I agree with wildlifewarrior.

Seems like he is creating his own "Hides" so he can thermoregulate and still feel safe.

Ball pythons are commonly found in burrows in Africa.

    Re: tunnels?????

Watching animal planet, episode on reptiles. Reptiles like to hibernate when they get cold, they will make a little tunle, usually with a sharp turn leading to a bit of water, and a nice little cosy chill spot. So like other said, maybe he just wanted a warm cozy hide and said hey lets just make one and save my pop some money lol

    Re: tunnels?????

    again, offer a second hide
and I'd think less substrate would discourage the tunneling, but as long as the base of the tank temps aren't too hot, I see no reason to be concerned

    Re: tunnels?????

Hahahhaha. i love it when they do that. You know when I try to make my females tank nice with decorations and 3 inches of substrate putting her house in the ground she goes and makes tunnels and destroys the whole tank. But yeah its common for them to burrow like that. They have to do it all the time in west africa on mounds.
