herpstat setup

tonight i am hoping to finally hook up my herpstat pro. I have no experience with tstats and have been just using dimmers on my smaller rack system. I have read through the herpstat manual twice now and seems like the only real issue will be matching the power mode to the efficiency of my rack setup. Everything else seems pretty striaght farward. Is there any tips that might help a newbie out? I certianly would like to know....thanks

I set mine at 96 there seems to be some heat loss between the tape and the tub. I also tape the probe to the heat tape itself.

Relative question, lets say by some wrath of god the probe slips out. Would the rack go up in flames so to speak? because its heating and heating but the prob isnt even on the tape. Know what im sayin?

This is one really good reason to tape the probe to the heating element. It is secured outside the tub so a spilled water bowl, snake pee or a the snake causing the probe to come loose won't cause the heat to spike.

Yes, if the probe fell out of the tub, your snake could get severely burned or killed, because the heat tape would then be running at full-throttle, trying to get the heat tape to heat the air of the room.

I don't know about "going up in flames"...but cooking your snake is a real possibility.

Really? damn thats scary, thermostats should come with a backup probe or something, or maybe a wattage cut-off, example, normally my rack takes 163 watts to keep my temps, they should have a failsafe biult in the thermostat where I could set max wattage to 180 incase the probe ever slipped out, it would not go above 180- watts. Man if I had money to design my own stuff Id be a millionaire
