is this normal? handling Q
I have been handling my BP regularly and he has gotten progressively calmer, but is still fairly active and exploring a lot when I have him out.
today I took him out later in the day than normal and put him on my lap in the living room....and he just sat still for a half hour or so! He moved a little bit to change position occasionally, but pretty much stayed in a loose coil with his head out in the open. He seemed quite content to me, but I'm sure it's wishful thinking.
After the half hour I put him back in his cage and he moved normally back into one of his hides.
Is it normal for a BP to just hang out and not move during handling like that? He has always been pretty active when handled before.

To me, it depends on the snake. Ginger and Luna, two of our girls, will do what you just described; they will sit on your lap, arm, or a table like a statue basically. Now, Ruger and SoCo.. they are like lightening bolts and really seem to get too stressed by handling, so I really don't put them through the hassle a lot.

Sometimes it's that particular snake or just that particular handling moment. They may not have huge brains but they are a living creature so I'm sure they have times when they just chill out or times when they want to explore or slither off if something startles them.

he's so cool!
I bought him one of those half log hides and tonight is the first night it's in his enclosure...just went down after lights out and he's perched right on top of the thing. I can almost hear him thinking 'MINE!'
Don't you love it when they "appreciate" things you get for their enclosure? When I gave Nag a grape wood (or whatever it's called) branch, he just started going nuts on it, wrapped around it, gripping it, cruisin' it... I was like "yeaah!! $20 well spent" LOL
Sometimes when I get Nag out, he's that chill and just wants to watch me from under my laptop or inside my pantleg... other times he seems to want to go find one of my several cats to start mischief! (that's my way of saying he won't stay with me LOL) He's cool though and I know it seems stupid, but my perception is that he views me as useful in protecting him, feeding him, helping him through shed etc... but he tends to wrap the end of his tail around the drawstring of my sweat pants (if available- which with as many animals are in my house I do usually change to sweats as soon as I get in!) so I always know where he's at even when he explores my bed and gets lost in the covers, I can always see the end of his tail... (I'm sure I'm reading a lot into something that's not there, but it's cool nonetheless )
