    incubator idea.. advice?

I am using a Hovabator this year.. trouble is, I have not found any rubbermaid or sterilite tubs that fit into it; they are all either too tall or long. Now, I have a tub that would fit fine, but the lid is pathetic and not at all airtight or snug..
Here's my idea: to use this, with a plate of glass over it for a lid. Now here's where I need some advice: I was thinking of using Vaseline around the lid of the r-maid and then placing the glass atop it to avoid gaps and lost humidity. I got the idea from my friend, whose gas cap on her car leaked; she coated it with vaseline and it seals fine now..
Any ideas as to how this would work?

try useing Glad press and seal around the top. Works very good for holding humidity.

I have a happy update! I found just the right container; it is actually a Ziplock brand "disposable" container (clear with the blue lid.)
I just hope that it has enough airspace; how does 3 inches high, by about 10 inches wide by 5 inches wide the other way, sound? With about an inch and a half of substrate.. kinda like an r-maid shoebox but a little shorter top to bottom..

imo, a little small. a 12 or 15qt size tub would do well.

a box big enough to hold enough vermiculite and have enough airspace for 60 days. small boxes work, i just think bigger boxes work better and have more room for error.

It is just this crazy incubator; it is only high enough for something about 3 inches high; otherwise the rubber would come in contact with the heating element. Argh, time to go build something I guess..! (not something I want to do, hehe.)

are you referring to the hovabators?

to me, that is a small space to heat, not much room for error. you could build a foot locker type chest, or use a big cooler(4ft). some flexwatt and a helix and you're set!
