Skink Question

Here in NC it's kinda common to see the 5 lined skinks around (or at least I think that's what they're called... males and juveniles have blue on them?) anyway there is a big (for a skink) female that hangs around the office here and I wonder... could she/ would she eat my betta? Seem like a stupid question I'd bet, but I figured I'd rather ask than come to work one day and my fish is missing... it's in one of those big gallon vases with no top, but there's like 4 inches between the top of the vase and the water line...

Skinks generally eat only insects (however, I have read that they will eat worms). With 5 lined skinks, the young generally have the blue colors. As adults their colors fade, but males will still have a 'redish' tint to their heads during breeding season.

From my observations in the field, these skinks are pretty interesting animals. I have spotted some moving around 35-40 ft. up in a tree with binoculars before. Really makes you wonder what kinda action takes place up in the canopies of US forests

You got some great shots there! I guess I don't know what sex the skink I saw was... last year there was one with blue on it, this year it could be a different one, or a matured version of the one from last year. I'm glad my fish is safe though... silly as it seems, that thing provides me great joy when I'm "working" Now I can just enjoy the skinks that come by (and pretend the mice in the walls are skinks cuz that's less scary and gross LOL)
