Smile Finally got a rack built now.

I finally got a new rack set up. I love the way it came out and I thought I'd share it with you all and maybe give others ideas for how to build one of their own. I took pictures all along to show you how I built it too. I am using 28qt tubs and this rack holds 9. The tubs are about 20"x16"x6".

Here's how I started. This is the base, all it is is 4 pieces of wood and a sheet of plywood. (top and bottom)

Here I connected the sides. Each side is 5 feet.

Now, I put on each level by placing the tub down and screwing in each bracket (slider) where it would fit with the tub. I then put the plywood on top of the tub and screwed that in, making sure it wasn't too tight to slide and made sure there wasnt enough space for a snake to get out.

I did that for each level and put the tub on the plywood top of the last one until I got to the top. At the last tub there was a little extra space but it worked out fine because all I did was make the tub higher than the last top.

And that's what it looks like finished. Here's another picture.

Now all I have to do is wait until I get my flexwatt in before I fill them up with snakes, and I also have to get more tubs, right now I only have three and I have some smaller ones on top which I'm going to be using for hatchlings. I plan on attaching the flexwatt to each tub instead of attaching it to the rack. I will post more pics showing you how I did that.

I like how your design makes it possible for there to be space underneath each tub for the FWatt, so it is not rubbing/sliding on the shelf.. good deal!

actually only the top one is like that because there was extra space, lol. and because of that i plan on attaching the flexwatt to the bottom of the tub where it is like concave so it wont be touching the wood when it slides.

I would seal the plywood that acts as a top for the tubs..the heat and humidity will cause mold in no time! I speak from experience!

Jon, A good non toxic wood sealer like clear polyurethane would keep out the moisture and prevent the wood from swelling. just give the whole rack 2 coats and let it dry real good, you dont want to smell the sealer when you use it.

Your new Ball python will fly on monday, good to see you have plenty of room.

will do, thanks. how long will that take to dry good enough to have a few balls in there? I will try to find some of that tomorrow, what is it staining? should i put in on just the plywood on the bottom?

Just give it the sniff test, its non toxic anyway. should dry real good in 3 days. cover everything and that seals the wood so it wont absorb any moisture. Good Luck
