    Angry I HATE mice

    Sometimes, Oh I just wanna...
Ya know I love my mice. I really do. I give them love, and care, let them run around a lot.. and.. one of my mice thats preggy killed my other mouse's babies. Thats what Im assuming. I heard some squeaks. And... out of 10 babies 3 are living. 1 out of those 3 may die.. So sad. So I took out grumpy old almost retired preggy mouse, Dot.

Daisy and Queenie are in a nest together. Daisy is nursing her babes. And Queenie looks she may give birth soon, she looks like she has shrunk, and she is squishy but still round, so anytime now . Blac-o gave birth in another cage but her babies died.. well..turned up missing. So in another week I shall put a male with her. And I may rebreed Daisy in a weeks time. 3 babies will not suffice! I hope Queenies babies are pluntiful. When she was all hard yesterday night she looked like she had two Cherry tomatoes in her. lol.

I think i can tell you why the one ate all the babies here. They get nervous very easy and they "protect" the babies from the "danger" and sometimes they just eat them. You might try to not disturb them to much when they have babies in the nests.I just feed and water mine and of course change the bedding when needed.

I dont disturb them. Not the ones that have babies. But I did always let them run around and enjoy themselves.. I think.. I think I have a evil mouse on my hands

    Re: I HATE mice

Do you think age might be her problem? She is and should retired after her next litter. She is about/around 6months old right now. But then again Queenie is going to be 6 months in another month and she is doing good. A bit moody but good And Dot's(the aggressive mouse) first litter she did very well.. She is preggy and should give birth within a week. I hope she doesnt kill her own litter.

    Re: I HATE mice

KittyJ, I bought my trio of african soft furs at a reptile show for 20 bucks. It is SOOO worth it, they smell less and compared to mice are way less prone to eating their babies.

I worked at a pet store and I often saw female mice eat other female's babies. It is pretty sick how they eat off their heads and makes a big bloody mess. I was always the one who pulled them from the display window. It tramatizes the kiddies...heh heh.
Anyways, I was always led to believe it was a mixture of stress and competition....if you are a female mouse taking care of babies and all the females are helping you, and then Jane Doe Mouse has a litter and your helpers go help her, well, Eating her litter would kind of make sense. Try keeping females seperated. I know mice work in colonies but if you are having this problem, it might just be easier to have one or two females (who get along well) per cage.

    Re: I HATE mice

I probably will keep Dot seperated. And she'll get another man of her own after her birthing of her babies. But I may keep Daisy and Queenie together.. maybe.. maybe I'll put the divider in their cage when they give birth and watch them closely. And ofcourse keep Blacc-o in her own cage (she just get eaten and beat up ): I have always had atleast one female mouse in with a female, Gosh I didnt think this would cause a problem.. I now only have 2 live babies out of so many, lol. Im going to get a male and a couple more females this Friday, and Im hoping I can try this again.

I have yet to go to a Reptile show/fair. I havent seen any in Washington for a while But once I do I'll definetly try and get a trio or two
